Monday 3rd September brought around the first evening Gala performance for Slough Ice Skating Club since the refurbishment of the ice arena in May. Skaters aged from 7 to 16 years old performed exceptionally well to an audience of family and friends from the surrounding area.
The Gala showcased 26 varied and polished ice skating routines. Some of the younger skaters performed in front of an audience for the first time and have been skating for less than a year. Intricate and technical routines were performed by more experienced skaters, many of whom train several times a week before and after school. The Gala was a great opportunity for young talent to emerge and for more experienced skaters to shine and inspire.
Parents from the Club gave their free time to support the club on its first big event this year which was a massive success.
Coach and Slough Ice Skating Club committee member Sam Elliott said, “It is amazing to see the ice-skating club grow in Slough, the skaters were all fantastic and we are massively appreciative that the parents got involved and made this happen”.
Club chairman Mandy Shah said “We are so pleased with the new Ice Arena that the council have provided, giving opportunities for local children and adults who wish to learn figure skating. We are also grateful to the management at Everyone Active for supporting our Club which has grown fast and is now flourishing. The evening was filled with fun and excitement and we look forward to our next event which will be our Spin, Spiral & Jump competition next month”.
